I have just bought a new electronic distributor off Ebay to replace the Lucas 45 (or possibly 59?) in my 1982 998 Mini. However, when I removed the old distibutor from my engine I noticed that the very end of the distributor shaft (drive dog?) was different to the new elctronic distibutor (and different to the illustration of a 45D4 in my Haynes manual).
Can I just swap the ends of the distibutors over, and if so, how? Or would it be better to put the electronic bits and bobs into the old distributor (the dizzys seem to use the same two bolts to hold everything in place)?
Any help would be really appreciated. Huwx

Sounds like you have a A-Series engine, and the dizzy is a A+ engine. If it is so, there is no way of swapping the dizzy drives.

after looking at diagrams of 45D4 dizzys i think that the new electronic dizzy i bought does match that which means that the distributor in my car is a lucas 59D4. Is there still no way of changing things?
