I've never used grooved or vented discs so i can't really give an opinion on them. But as you say, if you Aren't going to be thrashing the Mini mercilessly on the school run and round Asdas car park, what's the point in wasting good money. ;D

have to agree with dai on that 1, if other discs stopping the car ok then stick with them as grooved help with stopping but if not raceing round then not much point

If the standard discs did fail to slow you down one day, you could of course throw it sideways. That'll scrub a bit speed off.

upgrading the pads is the first thing to do, then disks, personly i think a decient set of pads and quality (standard) disks are more than capable of stopping any fast road / track day mini

from what i've heard about green stuff is their very good but do take a while to warm up ( where they work at their best) i've heard good things about Mintex pads which i think u can get form most mini places

Green stuff are a load of poo!!
Get yourself a set of Mintex Fast road pads, bite vertually from stand still, and don't fade for aaaagggeeesss, WAY beyond standard pads.

Standard are good enough! Just don't expectr amazing results if u go to a track day or decide to really open it up down the lanes
