ok so lately my engiens been shaking badly when turnign the enging off , lukes dad mentioned it was the mixtures and the cars trying to carry on with the power trying to continue hes gone away on hols so i cant get anyone to check it again as its starting again! my rad got a hole in it at the top and ive bought a new rad which is going on saturday! so i was thinking the engiends shaking badly when turnig it off becaue of the heat witht he rad getting to hot . the engine steady is fine so its not shaking form that . its shaking as if its going to blow up lol but yeh it only does it now n then , the car runs fine otherwise , a little bit slow lately becasue of the rad so its not gettin speed like it can. prob 50 at most for a nice drive . can anyone suggest anything to all of the above. hopefully the new rad will sort it all out. but the shaking its worrying , me and luke have just looked at eachother and said to ignore it but im worried itll get worse.

Hmmm. Without experiencing your "shaking" first hand, the only thing that springs to mind is the Engine is "running on" If the engine keeps on turning when the ignition is turned off try putting the car in gear and stalling the engine by engaging the clutch. Put your foot on the brake as well, just in case. I think your timing is too far advanced by the sound of it. The timing needs to be retarted by a couple of degrees first to see if that cures the problem. Judging by what you have told us in the past, lack of power etc, things are slowly making sense now and could all be tied in with the timing possibly being out.

as said sounds like its running on, there are a few things which cause this
excessive carbon build up on head timing - to advanced mixture - to lean overheating
sounds like in your case its overheating because of the hole in the rad, would also check the timming and mixture just to eliminate them

as for the hole , its not the filling hoel biker its a hole thats happened when the last owner left the rad leaning on the wing and it has caused a small hole whihch seems to have affected it alot. how can i check about this excessive carbon build in the head? timing prob needs doing mixture more then likely wrong and overheating is more then likely the water loss in the rad.

Bikermini and LJs suggestions could also be part of the problem, so it could be a process of elimination I'm afraid.

how can i check about this excessive carbon build in the head? the only way to check that is to take the head off, so it realy is the last thing to eliminate. first thing to look at is the rad me thinks followed by the timming & mixture

as for the hole , its not the filling hoel biker its a hole thats happened when the last owner left the rad leaning on the wing and it has caused a small hole whihch seems to have affected it alot. The reason that there is a hole in the rad is that the welds in the top tank at the front end of the rad have failed and the tank is free to rub against the inner wing rain gully - this has caused the hole in the brass top tank. I know cos I've seen the rad in the car. The overheating is then caused by the lack of pressure in the rad when the engine is hot. jc jc
