I now this has been asked before but, what grade engine oil should I be using in my mpi getting lots of contradictions !!!!

Anything thats marginally thicker than water will do for an MPI!!!!!

using 10-40 when engine gets warm (80*c) got no oil pressure

OOOOOO. Theyr'e on form tonight. ;D I think there's a thread on here somewhere which has the Haynes book of lies on it. That should give you the correct grade.

all A series engine need 20w50, ( 10w40 is to thin) when rover changed over to the K series which used 10w40 some numpty writing the owners manuals changed the mini one to 10w40

Got to agree with LJ there. The gearbox makes mincemeat of the oil at the best of times so a thicker oil would be an advantage, surely.

morris oil i use, and has a good spec to......20/50 api...SF/CC

The oil that wa put in from factory and replaced at rover dealers was in fact 10w-40. But if you are losing oil pressure at 80 degress then change to 20w50. Something like duckhams q classic or equivalent.
p.s, are you running an oil cooler and is 80degress your water temp or oil temp?

i use shell helix oil at £17.00 seems to do the job !

Halfrauds do a classic car oil, pretty good price (£13.00 ) and think it's 20/50 I bought it cause it has a picture of a mini on the front Seems to be doing ok in my car yep i now use this tis a very good oil, its actuly one of the quality oils but rebranded, ythe name has slipped my mind tho

20w50 Mineral Oil. Same as with all Mini Engines.
£13 from Halfords. Or in the for sale section there is a link to 10% an online oil shop. (which will probably do different makes etc)
