evenin all....
sooty is in disgrace....
shes been stalling at junctions since bristol, and my manifold gasket was blowing too...so thought that could account for the stalling....
changed the gasket yesterday, so no blowing but she was still stalling, earlier she broke down and will not start....did start but wouldnt pull away and now refuses to go at all
checked the following: points....all ok, clean and working plugs......as above, put the light thingies on them and they are firing fine. fuel....going into carb fine...but carb is using a great amount of oil in the pot, put some in yesterday and low again today.
thought maybe head gasket but no oil in rad (or film on top of water) and no mayo in the cap
any ideas anyone....
thanks from a sick mini...lol

Sorry to hear that Sooty's misbehaving. I Can't remember If You're running a coil set up. There's only 2 things left to check and that's the Coil and condenser. Can't think what else it could be, at the moment. Also sounds a bit like fuelling problems.

Sounds odd that the oil is draining out of the carb dashpot. Unscrew the dashpot and remove it to see if there is anything obvious - like a crack Only other thing I could think of is the ignition timing, but thats only cos I've just been through all that with jc. Might be worth checking again though jc

thanks jc....
funny thing is that it ran as far as my daughters...only cutting out at junctions.....got in the car to come home and its started playing up big time....
i cant see that the dizzy has moved at all, and if the condensor/ points/ coil were not ok then we wouldnt have a spark?

Is there any oil in the carb dashpot now or when these problems were happening sooty What type of carb is it - is it the type with a Wax-stat on the bottom jc

if it is a wax stat, ld ditch it anyway, they really lean off the fuel at higher revs,,,,,

sounds like sticking points but you have checked them. could posibly be a blown head gasket, if they blow between cylinders you wont get oil in the rad or mayo in the cap.

THINK THAT IS THE ONLY THING IT COULD BE.....ANY WAY TO TEST IT?

If u do get it start.... it'll sound like a tractor! My vans went on the M4 once.... managed to drive it about 70 miles before it finally had enough.
But strangely, I stripped that engine this week, and found it wasn't the head gasket at all, but a warped head from over heating!!

i`m glad i fixed the temp sender...at least i know shes def not overheated.....
had another peek at her and there does seem to be some oil down the block, but some of it has been there for quite a while (guess who cant be bothered to clean the engine!!!)

My first mini used to cut out at junctions, i spent a fortune getting things checked out in the end it was a cracked dizzy cap!
