Looks like I'm gonna need some new engine steady bushes but I want tidy ones this time. I picked up a set from selective mini spares about a month ago, and haven't really used the mini due to its poorly condition. Might have been out in it once or twice before condemning it to an engine swap. Wasn't at all impressed with them, the rubber is spilling out all over the place and they didnt look like that when I pushed them in and fitted it back on. The bottom one is ok, but I think I'll change it to be on the safe side. So do you guys recommend poly ones?

Definatly go with poly bushes they will last much longer, NO dont fit polly bushes to the steady, they dont flex enough which causes the steady bolts to shear! go for the proper rover ones they are much better.

Would Polyflex be more suitable?
Their supposed to be hard wearing like poly bushes, but more flexible like standard bushes?

Never known a steady bolt to sheer from using Poly! Sheered a few using brass bushes mind... I have because mine did just that a decade ago. The battery decided to give up the will to live and the resulting shock obviously made my engine rock enough to snap the top steady bolt off in the block. They were rock hard black poly bushes that had no give in them at all. Oh well we live and learn I guess.

Well I really should have changed that battery, but being tight I kept on going with it even though I knew the cells were past it.
Then whilst I was travelling along the car juddered and stopped. I managed to get it started again (just), but the engine steady bolt had snapped and the engine earth lead had also come off too (which it would).
For some odd reason a load of smoke then entered the cabin, so I thought my Mini was about to go up in flames too.
A new battery and one of those engine steady repair kits sorted things out.

So yes the death throes of that old battery was enough to seriously judder the car and cause the bolt to shear.
But the rock hard poly bushes didn't help and it probably would have been okay if they'd been standard rubber or deflex/polyflex instead?
