I have just bought the missus a mini mayfair with a 1275 metro engine in it, by the end of day one I had rerouted the ICE wiring and relaid the carpets, next day i chaged the points plugs condensor and distributor cap (all a real mess)

Sorry about that, I'm pressing buttons too quickly (stupid tab key) Anyway, I thought I would ge the thing tuned at my local (garage), as I don't have a timing light or settings. The work has been done but the mech tells me that he thinks I have the wrong carb on it as they are all specific to the engine (needles and float), and he cannot set up the idle mixture properly because of this. Can anyone tell me if this is right? and if so how do I find the right carb for my engine? I have the engine numbe etc. My motor also has a dizzy with points in, how much work is involved with the loom to fit the electronic dizzy

I've heard that 1275's like to have a HIF44 fitted. I've also just sorted out the wiring for an electronic ignition on my mini (a doddle tbh), which fortunately enough is a Mayfair with a Metro 1275 Either have a browse of my threads or add me on MSN.

The mech thinks that the carb off the original engine was fitted as the carb off the metro engine would not fit properly in the engine compartment, he also thinks that the carb would be bigger if off the metro engine and have 4 connection bolts instead of the 3 on this one. Is there anyway I can trace the correct carb from the engine number? When you did the loom did you have to relace it all or do you just add to the loom already there?

HIF44 need 4 studs, HIF38 (i think) off a 998 needs 2 studs. It may not be as easy for you as it has been for me, but I simply ran 1 new wire from a spare location on the 35amp spade to the coil (must be a 12v one) and then 2 wires from the coil to the blackbox on the side of the electronic dizzy. If you have pictures of your engine bay it might be easy for us all to work out what you got in there.

The mech said there was no number on it, but I'll have a look tomorrow (the spare I was given has a number on it but I don't know where that came from), and post a pic of it and the whole engine bay. what studs are we talking about?
