Not a very mechanical person i have to ask this question, is an auto mini as good as a manual or is buying one asking for trouble. Discuss

I've never driven one so i can't really give an opinion on what they are like. What i can say though, is that owners of such Mini's like them to bits. The downside is, finding parts and a mechanic who's prepared to fix the Auto box when it goes wrong.

i test drove one before and i thought it was terribly under powered and the change was abit sluggish, but that could have just been that particular mini.
As Dai said finding parts and getting some one to repair a auto box is getting harder but there are still a few auto box specialists around. Another thing to consider is tune-ability from what I've read after a 20-ish BHP increase the box cant cope, there was a bloke in Australia who managed to get a large gain but the box had to be used as a semi auto box.
from my (limited) experience with auto's the only reason i would buy one would be because it had a solid shell and i had a manual engine to drop in.
i think allot of it is personal choice or license type held

If you're going to buy one, then make sure the service history is really good because you can't neglect an auto and not expect problems.
