Try this first - With the engine switched off!!! press the accelerator pedal and see if you can get it to stick - then stick your head under the bonnet remove the air filter and see if there is any obvious reason the cable is sticking near the carb - it can sometimes be just a matter of moving the cable a little or bending the bracket - if this fails go back to plan A and change the cable !!! jc

Also, make sure the throttle return spring has not fallen off, broken, stretched or not fitted properly.

That "metallic noise" is probably just your throttle pedal moving inside the car No. Return spring should be on the carb connected to the accelerator linkage. Try sticking your head down in the drivers side footwell and looking up at the top of the accelerator pedal - you should see how the cable is fixed to the pedel there - look for any frayed cable between the pedel and the engine bulkhead jc

No. Return spring should be on the carb connected to the accelerator linkage. Or in mycase, off the throttle linkage to the bulkhead ;D

I had the same problem & like yourself, am no mechanic. After checking springs, missing bits etc. I gave up & I bought a new one for a couple of quids on flea bay & fitted it with relative ease! (Took about 20 mins) It resolved the problem straight away Hope you get it sorted soon!
