Ok, i was off on my way thia morning to recce the route for the run on the 14th ;D Initially the car would not start as it had been sat out in the rain all week without me going near it. WD40 USED TO THE MAX and it started. Went to Tesco to fill up and on my way down the by pass i got a few judders as if the car was missing. By the time i got to Liberty it was back firing stuttering and kept stalling when i dropped the revs. Pulled it up in the morrisons car park and it would not start. When it did it would splutter as if fuel starved then rev then die a death. Battery now flat car at home. what do we think chaps and chapesses. Fuel? Dizzy cap looks new (only had the car a few weeks). It was sat out in the rain with the air filter housing off could that be a factor. Also when i was throwing wd40 around the engine bay a good squirt went into the air inlet on the carb. The RAC guy says it could be the plastic thing in the carb has a split or it could points rotor arm etc. Help as i have said before my knowledge is limited. and where do i buy these parts. If i cant sort this i will have to pull out for the 14th sorry

As you've only just bought your Mini, then it would be a good idea to replace all the electrics. Then you'll know that it's right. So replace the Spark Plugs, HT Leads, Dizzy Cap (it may look clean, but it could be worn inside or cracked?), Rotor Arm, Contact Breaker Points & Condenser. Try to use good quality items like NGK plugs (Halfords do those) and say Lumenition HT leads (I got a fantastic red set from Mini Spares, part no HV22). Oh and make sure there's an ignition weather shield fitted (it would have had one when new) and try to not use WD40, unless you really have to and even then you should clean it all off afterwards, otherwise your Mini will become dependent on the stuff. So new/clean/weather proof electrics and not a whiff of WD40 should see you right.

Sounds like the vacuum hose? If so a replacement can be found at most motor factors, or try Mini Spares or Somerford Minis for the exact part.

If it was a Tardis, it would reverse the polarity of the neutron flow, boom boom. LOL
No it's just a long piece of plastic tubing that runs from the carb to the dizzy vacuum unit. That funny shaped thing that sticks out from the dizzy itself.

taff 1967 like the way you think ;D ;D although i am sure reversing polarity is a starship enterprise thing . I think i will go to Halfords tomorrow and buy everything i can. i have looked on Mini spares web site and there seems to be loods of different points dissy caps etc which do i frigging need , my head hurts man it just hurts . If all else fails i shall access the inter galactic warp core and go for self distruct . If any of you out there are red dwarf fans this will make sense, " i would go to red alert but i would have to change the bulb". ;D ;D ;D

taff 1967 like the way you think ;D ;D although i am sure reversing polarity is a starship enterprise thing . Nope, it was a Doctor Who thing way back during the early 1970's when John Pertwee played the 3rd Doctor. Anyway I've got a Tardis air freshner, but I've not fitted it yet. Right so exactly what year/model Mini do you own?
