Just tried to change my points and condensor.... think i did it right::: poped off cap. popped off rotor arm. undid condensor mounting screw. undid points screw. took them off. put the new condensor onto the new points. lined points up with hole. put screw in. put the black cable through the dizzy hole from the condensor. connected that up. mounted the condensor. put the cap back on. tried to start it. swear. pop cap off. fit rotor arm. put cap on. start it. "IT RUNS! ;D" *gives it some revs* " awhh" got a huge miss now. i know its something to do with what ive just done though... any suggestions... daylights fading fast and need it sussed

Put the car in gear, push it until the points are closed. You will realise after a few attempts when they are furthest open and when they are closed.

If the cap is off and your watching the points then it wont start anyway. But for safety yeah I guess I should have suggested unplug the dizzy.

Handy to know! although i dont smoke.... ive heard that the silver paper can be a fuse if needs be aswell? also...... SHES ALIVE!!!!! ;D my dad fixed it .......in my defence the base plate was really tight and didnt move, kept jamming. so we had to take off the dizzy, fanny around with ponds of WD40 and wiggling it back and fore until the baseplate loosened up a bit, then the points adjusted easily enough! (and i was even doing the right thing to try and adjust them as it goes! ) then checked Dwell and Timing. took her round the block and she is no longer sluggish and hesitant... shes bloody loopy and fearless..... lol. Off to Asda's tonight to treat her to a drink of Oil! ;D Cheers to everyone who tried to help though! especially Biker who ended up phoning me like 3 times to talk me through it lol
