Just drove back from matts in the pouring rain, and to say I enjoyed that drive home is a major understatement. Even with its rattles, scabby paintwork, half missing interior and no speedo, I still love my mini. I could barely see out of my windscreen because it had misted up and the wipers were totally useless, there was water pouring in through the cutouts on the inner skin of both doors and the countless other problems with it... the sound of the engine and the exhaust was music to my ears and thats all I needed, all the problems I've got just dissolved. I truly enjoyed being behind the wheel..... The way it performed tonight was amazing, even with the spray from the cars in front the engine didnt miss a beat - I dont even have a weather sheild! The only thing that let it down was once I hit the dual carriageway the fan belt started to slip, but now I know that my ignition / charge light works ;D I haven't felt the way I did about my mini tonight in the whole time I've owned it. I do love mini's! Just thought I'd share this wonderful experience with you guys.

I did have a brown trouser moment when I hit a puddle on the dual carriageway at 70. But those wide tyres I got kept me on the straight and narrow ;D I find my car follows ruts in the road even when I steer against them ;D

Well, it's fair to say that you are now a Miniphile of true greatness having endured and enjoyed driving your Jaffa in this stinking weather. The charge light coming on was water in the alternator affecting the gubbins. Skinnier tyres are better in the wet. They'll reduce the chances of aquaplaning, up to a point.

I know that my fan belt is slipping, I can hear it squealing sometimes if theres a bit of damp in the air, so adjusting the alternators position might sort that out.

Looks like my mini wasnt so happy with me last night after Noticed the carpet was wet looking so I peeled back all the layers only to find this.... oh joy! I thought I had sorted out the worst of the leaks! I'm sure its leaked only now because when I couldnt drive it anywhere the rain was only falling on the body. I think its my DIY job of blocking the fresh air vents that was to blame, there was a lot of puddles last night that I couldnt avoid so all that water being thrown up at the underside of the car has most probably come through into the car and under the carpets. So I stuck loads of duck tape over the holes from the inside of the arch this time and while I was under there I noticed the edges of the front tyres were a bit flat...... fronts back Looks like I need to fork out for tracking, new tyres and balancing. *sigh* The ups and downs of owning a mini, but I do love them so! ;D
