Isn't it about time you bought a real car. This is a question I was asked on a regular basis in the past with my previous Minis and more-so recently by people from all walks of life, work mates, friends and even family, some things in life never change. Have you ever noticed that when you answer the question they just can't grasp it, they look at you all vacant, normally cracking some sort of joke, so to that end this is why that at the young old age of 39 I own a mini (again).
Once upon a time...or so the story goes there was a young sprightly lad who dreamed of fast cars, lovely ladies and lavish lifestyles( still dreaming, except for the lovely lady bit, she might read this) so to get my foot on the ladder at the ripe old age of 17 I got myself a classy first car....a Fiat Polski 125p...basically a brick with wheels at each corner...I'm on my way now I thought, the talk of the town I will be, well I was but for the wrong reasons so off she went and along came my Vauxhall Cavaliar and what fun that was but she got me to Germany so can't complain. About a year later I was asked if I would look after my brothers car whilst he was serving in Ireland, just keep her running, usual stuff, yeah no probs after all its only a MINI, so I took charge of his silver Mayfair and life from that point on would never be the same. I found myself comparing it to other cars wandering how something so small could have such big appeal ( a bit like the film 'Christine'), every time I drove my car I would find reasons to dislike it and often heard myself saying..the minis better. Now at this point I should have checked myself in for evaluation. Well time went by and the weekly routine carried on, until one evening whilst on the phone to my bro in Ireland, Mark he said, well you know the Mini you've been looking after, I hope you've done a good job, of course I replied, good, in that case she's all yours , beg your pardon, you heard me, the Mini is yours. Speechless, I could not believe my ears, he'd only gone and bought himself a new bike so the car was surplus to requirement.
It was like all my Christmas's rolled into one and so began my love affair of this wonderful little car. How could driving in a little tin box be so much fun, to have your internals bounced and banged from here to eternity, to wandering what mechanical adventure would ensue today, by-pass hose, water pump, alternator. Who in their right mind would want hassle free motoring where driving became a chore as there was nothing to worry about or no new noise encountered, the joys of wet weather motoring and spluttering engines fighting to keep their head above water, now thats living. In order to appreciate life we have to endure life, to rise above little set backs, to get that oil under those nails and enjoy it,knowing that if something goes wrong we can tackle it head on without the need of a Laptop and the latest software, that is why I have a Mini(again) that is why she is No.9 because you have to appreciate the little things in life time and time again, so when someone asks you in a disrespectful tone as to why you have a Mini, just say to them 'because I have a life and I want to live it'
Now I hope I haven't bored you too much but if you have a few minutes to spare then let us know why you have your Mini and how it came about, after all its a Mini adventure.
