My to-do list for tomorrow and Saturday before Sundays little outing is: - Seal Bulkhead Holes - Mask up stuff near the bulkhead - paint bulkhead - Block up carb inlet and inlet manifold - Degrease carb (polish if time during bulkhead/engine paint drying) - Paint gearbox/Transfer case - mask up bits on/around block - paint block - mask up stuff on/around head - paint head - paint accessories - Find lost washer for inlet manifold stud - Refit carb and manifold with new gaskets - Re-oil/grease spindles/springs/moving bits on carb - Re-fill dashpot oil - Slightly increase idle speed - Re-fit airbox - Re-fill rad - Check oil. - sort out dodgy fusebox issue (loose spade terminal) - Cable tie wiring neater all in two days..... wish me luck..... Id like to get all the painting and cleaning done tomorrow, and just re-fit everything on Saturday then. But nothings ever straight forward on a mini... lol...

the hardest parts are going to be waiting for paint to dry so i can mask up over it. and actually masking it.... other than that its just little bits and pieces. and seeing as how cold it is i think ill have to leave it for half hour or so after each section

Looking good bud, one of the biggest differences in what's left to do would be to tape the wiring loom up so theres no wires everywhere. Also a nice bright set of ign leads would improve things. Also WD40 wiped over all the surfaces really brighten things up, i.e. hoses, rad, rad surround etc.

THIS STUFF is the Bo***cks, and comes in different sizes and colour. Not expensive either and you can "let" the loom split off in other directions by dropping off wires.

With regards to the paintbrush problem, have you tried using artists brushes. They're ideal for intricate work, especially in the engine bay.

exuptoy - yeah my plan is to smarten up the loom on the top left where the Megajolt gumph is, but i can't do that until I add a few other wires to it. so for now ill have to just tuck it up neatly. although will hopefully add the wires to that next week Ive got Autoglym Vinyl and Rubber dressing for the hoses and sleevings, im considering trying it on the rad, but not sure if itll help or not, or if itll freak out when it heats up lol. Anyone experienced with this? Im going to be trying to track down some proper automotive wiring harness wrap (non sticky, but sticks to itself if that makes sense??) ill raid my dads KitCar magazines begining of next week and order some ;D Im really considering getting some new HT leads (thanks for reminding me taffy ) I found some 'Spitfire' ones with a 'dual core' and 'double insulation' and 'etc' lol..on ebay, are these any good? or should i just go down my local motor factors and get a set of bogo silicone ones? Dai, I was planning on using those exact ones ;D I used to be a geek and collect army miniatures so if ive still got the paintbrushes for that im sorted ;D M2I its not that hard, im not very patient and im lazy, and ive managed it ;D In other news i just finished stripping the manifold and elbow off my carb, and ive made some new gaskets for it (gasket paper), so that will be going on tomorrow i hope, (after a splash of carb cleaner for the inside while its off). Along with a new exhaust/inlet gasket. im a bit let down by my carb but i dont want to paint it incase it looks terrible... and most of it is covered by my airbox anyway! ah well... Cheers for the encouragement everyone! ;D

Carb cleaner aerosol usually does the trick. Or a fine grade wire wool for the stubborn bits.

I'll have a similar to do list when I have a bit more time, now the engine is running tidy I can spent a bit of time tarting it up, but I wont be removing ANYTHING incase it starts running like a dog again, so it will be a bit tedious but its all fun - or so they say

only reason i removed my carb ad stuff was to get at the bulkhead easier, probably could have done it with it in place if i was lazier. only reason i took my carb out was to blank it off.
its a good way to spend a day or two! although, i may have to invest in an old horrible cushion to kneel on from now on.... my knees are quite shot after spending pretty much 6 and a half hours on them....
