We're with the AA and so far so good as we've not had to call them out. Although we were told that their recovery men tend to only carry computers now for modern cars with diagnostics ecu's and stuff.
But they said covering a classic Mini wouldn't be a problem.
As for a battery, well keep well away from Halfords because theirs are over priced and not much cop.
I got my standard Mini battery from my local Sparesworld over 2 years ago and it's still going strong and hasn't caused any problems. It's only a 'Moura' make battery and I'd have liked something a bit more fancy, but until it plays up (if at all) it'll do.
Oh and it only cost around 15 quid.

cancel the rac ( you got a 14 day period in which to do it with no charge) they are a rip off and go with www.icbreakdown.co.uk/index.php£29 a year unlimited call outs

Perhaps try a volt meter on the battery, both when the engines running and switched off.
I believe you're also supposed to switch all the electric things on, like the heater, lights, rear screen demister etc and then see how the battery is coping.
If it stays constant (around 12V, or a bit more?), then the battery is fine and the alternator is also in good order.

Tested the battery this morning and it wouldnt hold any charge so bought a new one, the date on the old battery was 1999 so I think its fair to say it had led a good life

-reading of around 13v is alternator average working, reading of below 9v once a load put on the battery means its knackered. average battery life being 4years nowadays.

Jamie fitted his Mk2 lights yesterday, and Taff fitted his reversing light, I think with a chrome numberplate light and boot lock it will look great..
