Having some issue's with jamie's mini We can get it running, but only if set the dizzy to a crazy angle it has to be set almost 1/4 of a turn to the right before the car will even think of starting, will then tick over but have a major miss when trying to drive it. We have changed points, condenser, leads, plugs and coil but still the same, spark at points and plugs, plugs are sooting up quickly though, Would this mean the timing is way out? why wont it start when the dizzy is set at the normal setting? Anyone got a box of matches?

Did all of the abov e and no change, I have just changed the carb now when I try and start it there is fuel pumping out of the overflow pipe I have checked the float and that seems free, I then thought I might have put a 1275 petrol pump on and it is pumping too much fuel and the carb can not cope?? Is that possible or are 998 and 1275 pumps the same?

I pincked the fuel pump off byrons cabrio when i changed to carbs, and its still on there so unless that had a 1275 pump they should be the same....its not a seal or something like that gone in the carb?...also could try doing the tappet thigies incase its opening stuff at the wrong time?

Hi,
Have you taken the needle out of the float chamber incase there is a blockage there. Normally you can remove the float by taking out the small pin and then there a small needle underneath which controls the flow.

P.s. under the needle is a small hole which sometimes needs cleaning through.
Have a full carb and manifold which is still on 'blue' you can take it off and try it. The engine was running spot (rest of the car isn't).

Just checked all the float and needles and they seem fine and clear Think It is time to make Jamie spend some money and start fitting new parts rather than 2nd hand now, Will keep on going for ever otherwise, Thanks for the offer though
