Because I am fitting another engine in an injection shell I am blessed with a standard fit electric fan. Question is do I
A: Just run it with the elec one? B: Just the water pump powered one? C: Do I run both?
I could just power it up and run it off a switch alongside the original or I could fit some sort of inline fan switch (they must make a generic install for kit cars and the like).
Opinions?

I would put the electric one on a separate switch, the pump powered one should be more than adequate for normal driving but would be handy to know the extra one is there if needed in hot weather or traffic jams

C. Run both. Fit a switch on the dash which you can flick on when the temp gauge rises, usually in stop start traffic.

Wouldn't running both maybe make the engine too cold? and end up not reaching optimum temperature?

only run the electric one if the needle starts to climb past normal (ie. stick it on a switch)

I was thinking the same but was waiting for someone to come up with some fact like an SPi fan can be used to generate a cyclone / tornado or that in the event of a break down I could use it to power the car home but only at 8mph flat out, but I suppose I could use it as a back up fan, not very popstar tho is it. haha

The SPi Minis and Mini Coopers had a thermostat switch inserted at the lower front of the radiator. It's the thing with the 2 spade connector terminals. So you could just leave it as standard as it'll know when to activate the electric fan.

Yeah, it would do except I have no wiring going to it and the rad was gone when I got it and I am using a standard rad.

Phil I am disappointed you lost your bet! Well the original Daleks from the classic series did have Mini indicator lights on their heads and if you look they have the 'Lucas - Made In England' legend stamped on them. So the Mini looms large in the Dr Who universe and even the Timelords themselves were impressed with Issigonis since they made their Tardis bigger on the inside. ;D

Well no, because his Tardis is bigger on the inside. So it's kind of Mini inspired anyway. Plus whenever I'm driving behind a BINI or some other BMW, I usually shout 'Exterminate'. Yes I just can't help myself sometimes. Trouble is just the other day I was doing some ludicrous speed chasing a big black 4x4 BMW thingy down the Rhigos mountain and shouting at the same time. I kept my distance to be safe though, although the driver was clearly upset that he couldn't shake some old Mini off his tail on the bends nor on the straights. Well it made me laugh anyway. ;D
