mines on k and did have a cat but did pass without it as the law for older cars 1990-92 etc isnt as strict on the emissions and aslong as your hc's and your co's are pretty good then should fly through..

Yeah if its pre 95 it needs to pass emissions of 3.5ppm but if its post 95 its 0.5ppm. although sayign that my car is an injection but if i wanted to by pass the emissions i would need to go pre 92 for an engine. best thing is talk to the ppl your goign to get the mot done with. my MOT is up soon and i really cba to put my cat back on the car for it. lets hope I can talk my way out of it like last year

If it's a carb equipped Mini then it doesn't need to have a cat fitted.
I believe it's only post 1992 SPi Minis and SPi Mini Coopers that need to retain their cats. Or at least there's hardly any chance of them passing the emissions test without one fitted.
The last carb Minis got made in 1995, but I've heard the MOT testers handbook has a section in it about Minis and how they shouldn't be as strict on carb models.

Not much chance as all mot's have to be entered on the computer and it will ask for the emmision results. The only way around it is to provide a letter / receipt that states the original 98 engine has been replaced by a pre 94 engine That was the only way I could get my 96 spi through an mot after switching it to carbs.

pre-1993, CAT's are not required, but were fitted anyways.
So as long as the emmissions are good, it'll pass!

Yes some can be right job worths. Just keep well away from places like Kwik Fit, because I've heard that they advised one Mini owner that he should fit fuel injection to his carb equipped Mini to get it through the emissions test.
