Lets hope it aint a murder with lots of mitigating circumstances and technicalities . Am i right in saying 15 or more go in and then the first twelve get picked unless they know the defendant or work/live near them and fear that may prejudice them? But looking on the brightside you may not get picked . oh and I would discuss the case the judge will have your guts for garters lol

oh wow id love to do it!! really fun!! can only get out if it if you're a serving member of the armed forces. thats the only definate way to get out. u can have a discretionary excusal if you're a doctor, midwife, teacher, paramedic, full time carer for a severely ill/disabled person where nobody else can take your place, etc (so people lives would be greatly affected if you were out of service for a period of time) but they have to be approved they recently changed the law though (with the criminal justice act 2003 i believe, not implemented until a few years later) where lawyers, police men and judges can now be called on for jury service and have no way out of it!! there are 15 picked and 12 actually make up the jury, the other 3 are "reserves" incase an appointed member of the jury is challenged, i.e the defendant admits to knowing them or feels that they would be prejudice towards them (for race, religious beliefs, sex, age, etc). then a "reserve member" of the jury would take their place. serious illness could be a way out of it, or if you booked a holiday BEFORE getting the letter and the holiday was meant to be on the days you have been selected for, you will be deffered until a later date. but you have to extensively prove that it was definately booked BEFORE the letter arrived. other than that, you're screwed cos any other reason isnt accepted should be fun though, id love to do it!! ;D
