A "Stage1" kit is the easiest and cheapest way to gain more poke out of your cooking 998.. After that it'll have to be a modded head preferably with a hotter camshaft.

as dai said go for a stage 1 kit first, they make a decent difference in power but i sugest you go for a quality kit i.e maniflow manifold etc as the budget stuff that mini sport sells is rubbish. might be worth phoning your insurance first tho as you may find your premium will go up also its been known for company's to cancel policy's as the don't cover mods. if you want more power on top its things like new head cam etc etc heres what i did to mine southwalesminis.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=engines&action=display&thread=4248

There's this one that's just up the A470 and the club had a rolling road shoot-out day there last year. Tommy is the owner (I think that's his name), so give him a bell: - www.willfieldmotors.co.uk/

gotta admit he done wonders with medusa 1275 cooper, 74 bhp from memory before the rebuild + tune, rebuilt + skimmed head etc after a certain lady driver decided to totally fry everything. last time it went on rolling road we got 106 bhp + was re-checked 3 times.

Once I can afford it I plan to take a day trip to SpamSpeed....

well wilfield (spelling?) is the closest and is mini friendly...
As for stage one kits people have noticed much better power gains by buying the different bits separately. (eg, get the carb needle, inlet manifold, gaskets etc from mini spares then go to another company and getting maniflow exhaust system and exhaust manifold.)
Of course this costs more but is a way to get a bit more power from just a stage 1 kit.
