As per the title, just putting feelers out for loan / rental of a mini spit. Is there one in the club or would I be better buying or making one myself.
Once the rear quarter is ready for welding and completed, I will be stripping the shell to get her on her side.

Been ringing around to try and source some material to make my own, and had a better idea than a bigger tube sleeve with a bolt in it, I can use the scaffold extension pieces that are already the right size with 2 bolts already in them to tighten up when in position. Anyway no joy so I called down my daughters house to ask her boyfriend who works around the sites and ha tells me he has just finished sorting out the garden in their new flat and down the bottom of said garden buried under long grass and peashooters is.............yeah you guessed it, a load of scaffolding tubes, mostly 4-5 foot but there was at least 1 about 15 foot long.
RESULT.
Just have to source some box section now for the feet and I am ready to go.

Yeah thanks LJ I was thinking about the uprights being in tube but the feet in box but I suppose I could, that would be a freebie then as there should be plenty of tube there for my needs. Thanks

cylinders (i.e the scaffold tube) are the strongest shape when it comes to compression (end on end)so they are better suited for the uprights than box section

It should be 42" to the bottom of the clamp according to the plans in the earlier post so I have done it 40" and allowed 2" for some unistrut feet, that will allow me to weld the a-frames to some unistrut T-brackets and bolt the feet and cross brace on when it is in use and unbolt them for storage. It's design is sort of unfolding as it goes. I managed to source the unistrut and brackets in work today, I just have to get some 1/4" plate now for the F and R bulkheads. I need to make some time now to carry on where I left off. Juggling work / babysitting the nipper etc is making finding time awkward.

Managed to get up the garage for an hour, cut my frame to size, bolted together and started welding..............then run out of wire. DOH. That's me on stop again then. Piccy

Still have another to make yet. haha.
I also found a set of HEAVY duty castors here which I may fit to the frame so I have a rolling shell. The only problem is my garage floor is not a solid slab, more of a compacted rubble floor where the shell is sitting so I'll probably leave the wheels until later.

I found a coil of 0.6 mig wire in a cupboard which I thought I had used, woohoo. Spent another hour or so finishing one and prepping the next one. Well my welding's getting better. It's coming together nicely. Phil, any chance you can tidy up this thread a little and put it somewhere more appropriate. It is after all another project, not so much general chat. Ta

Ta LJ, I also welded inside the joint so it isn't going anywhere and the cross brace is really there just to keep the base together in one piece. As a side note, I was down A&E from 11.30 till 2.30 this morning as there was a piece of slitting disc in my eye which had shattered and I didn't feel it at the time, but felt it picking after. Lol. Remember children, always wear your safety specs. Ooops.

Flipping eck, hope there's no damage done and they got it out?
Scary and being stuck in A&E is no fun.

Nah, I'm ok thanks Dar. (thumbs up type smilie ) I've had it done twice before. You think I'd learn wouldn't you. ;D First they apply a dye to see it the eyeball is scratched anywhere else, then they insert something which freezes it then they use a needle to "lift it out" Not nice really.
