not very happy today at all, car failed its MOT on back subframe being shot which it was so took another one down to him that we had in the garage that had been plated once. he said that unfortunately the rules state that a subframe must not be plated, it can be welded but subframes must not have any plates on them at all any more. so if you have a repaired subframe on your car with a plate or patch, you may fail the next MOT even if the subframe is perfect otherwise im now trying to find a new subframe or used in good condition, looked at someones on here but it has a small hole in it, so will need a patch and hence is useless now! just not happy at all! anyway little rant over jamie

I've had the same problem in the past, it all depends where you take it to be honest, The place I go now has no problems with subframes being welded as long as they are as strong as they need to be.

that was my argument as long as its as stong as it should be and is not stupidly patched then i see no problems really....

My current subframe is patched, I've been specifically told its fine? As Phil said, depends where you take it I guess. As long as its a strong continuous weld (not tacked) I would imagine it should in theory be fine?

its been a rule for years that subframes cant the patched. ive welded mine in the past but ive cut the rot out and then welded a new section in (butt weld not a patch over the top) then dressed the welds so its perfectly flat then with some paint and underseal no one would ever know
