I'm looking to buy a mini Mayfair for 250 but the owner says the engine is beond repair. Just wondering how much it would cost to put a new engine in it or if I should look to buy a different one. Also does anybody put in new engines?

sometimes its cheaper to pick up a second hand unit and fit rather than repair.
your best option would be to find out whats wrong with the current one first then take it from there.

Well I asked what was wrong exactley and he said not sure. Just that he took it to the garage and he said that it was un repairable and needs replacing or rebuilding. Hmmmm! How much would I be looking at for the new engine and dropping it in? It also needs two new doors.

depends on which engine you want to replace but bout £100 - £150 as an average but can be alot more expensive depending on spec etc
