From memory, the sandwich plate was fitted to incorporate a temp sensor for an electric rad fan fitted under the near side wing. If you don't have the electric fan fitted (or if you remove the temp sensor and wire up a fan on/off switch like I did!) you wont need to use a sandwich plate. There will be an issue with the length of the thermostat housing studs being too long tho

thanks jack,i was just making sure,as i definately know that the sandwich plate was fitted to the cooper carb models 1990-94 and the Mpi engines aswell but i werent sure about the earlier carb engines,thanks for your help jack much appreciated matt
