Just think. If its done properly once, then you wont have to do it again! ;D Provided you have somewhere dry to store it and work on it then slowly slowly catchy monkey! The best thing is that will work well with the fact you cant afford to do too much with it. If you had the money to get all the bits to fix it outright you wouldnt have the time to fix it anyway and it would end up being rushed. So best to plod along and fix one problem and then come across the next one until there are no problems left. Also, dont forget, you can get parts much cheaper at shows. And I can assure you, if you go to a national event to go and get those parts there is no way you will want to get rid of the Mini Plus its a good day out for the family! (National as in one of the big ones, Castle Combe, london>brighton, etc.)

Custard mate, you know yourself I'm in pretty much the same boat as you as far as the Mini situation goes, mines rotten as a pear, also with very limited resources and skills, I chip away at it, today was one of the days where I decided it would be easier to throw the towel in, but, even when it comes to that, don't get rid of it, keep it in the garage, because when you do have a spare few minutes, spend them on the Mini, that satisfaction when you complete a job can keep you going for weeks! I've learnt it's not easy owning a Mini, and some days I am truly disheartened and I wonder why I just didn't buy a Saxo, I'll tell you why, because when I had moments like this, I could always come here with a problem or a moan, and while it may not get solved, I got the problem off my chest, I gained advice of other members. Just keep chipping away at it fella, you'll get there in the end, that day when you tighten up the last bolt, you know it will be worth it, when your old man sees what an amazing car you've built for him, the smile on his face, and the glint in his eyes will make it worth it. And then you get to drive Jemy home, remember that

Think we've all "been there" at some point custard Normally, as you say, when you are trying to fix one thing, then find another 3 things wrong !!! One step forwards and 3 steps back !!! Same advice as above tho really, just keep pluggin away and you will get there in the end Keep an eye on the end objective .... and imagine the fun to be had

just keep at it, ive felt the same god knows how many times, the flame was supposed to be a 3 month project which actually took 2 years.
ive been at the van for 5 years lol well 3 where when it was in storage, but now ant then i do a little bit and its that little bit closer each time. infact it acts as a nice distraction from things, i get to go out the garage beat some steal then weld it.
as long as custard isnt in the way keep him and go back to it when you can

Custard, You are old enough to know better, you have done cars before and know the work involved. You are at the stage in life where you have a young family which is going demand a lot of your time and prevent you from working on the car. My advice would be to enjoy your time with your family and get rid of the car and spend the money you would have spent on doing the car up, to buy a car already done. As every time I've done a car up, I've spent over 12 months doing the car (losted time you will never get back) up and also spent as much money doing the car up as its been worth. I know its not what everyone wants to hear, but thats the best advice, as the prices on Mini's are still low and there's aways something to fix, or rust to treat. But if its because you want to do it for yourself? then crack on with the project. Good luck Steve.
