Is this going in the Clubman, if so WOW!!! Not very helpful I know, wheres Dai??? Also give the guys at Minisport a call, it may just be the fueling and you need a different needle/jet set up. Phil's sorting out Club discount at Minisport

I'm here, don't panic. As Acid quite rightly says, start by looking at the carb, needle & jet. Do you know what Final Drive ratios you have on the Diff? Are you using a standard cam or something a bit hairier.? Is the Timing correct, IE; is the distributor set up correctly etc.? Your problems could be caused by any of the above and more. It could be something simple. Let's hope so.

hi,i am not sure of the final drive on the diff i will find out although the notes say its a comp diff and bearings and a balanced gear assembly,it has got a lumpy cam [286 blue print,i have no idea what that is ]and the feller who did the restore said that the dissy was possibly the cause to the miss, having tried 2 or 3 eletronic dissys later i still dont know, carbs i havent touched i had to lean it off for the mot but having put it back to where it should be still coughing and splutering up to 35 to 40 mph after this she stops and is ok.knew clutch being fitted tomorrow and then its a case of starting simple and changing a few things maybe going back to good old points !,otherwise u might see me on the side of the road to coombe.

HMMM. A 286 cam is a fairly hot cam, and personally i don't think the carb is big enough. An H6 or 1 and 3/4 SU would be better suited or an HIF 44 SU. It sounds as if there is a fuelling problem. Is the head modified at all,? There are so many factors to consider it's difficult to pinpoint any single cause of your problem.

I had the same problem with a 1380, I swapped 1and1/2 su for a 1and3/4 HIF su. Then got in touch with Mini Spares gave them the engine spec and they sorted a needle. I think it turned out to be a stage one needle.

Right enough Tim. A lightly modified 1275 is usually not a problem for an 1 1/2 su with the right needle / jet.

What you need is a hiff44 1/34 carb with a BDR needle. Failing that a BBB. That will sort all your problems.
