rung one of the insurance groups in the mini mag and they couldn't find it as well. will have another try tomorrow. ;D

I would be a bit sus of that
Give the seller a call and ask him to confirm the reg plate number and tell him its not recognised by insurance companies to see what he says.
Find out what insurance company he uses and contact them for a quote to confirm what he says.
Then try online again

i done a hpi check and that was ok got the make and model and when it was registered so i think its legit.

thanks a lot. he did tell me it was still a 848 in the log book. one other question if i buy it will i have to get if off sorn before i drive it from swindon? or will it be ok with insurance and an mot till i get it home?

Think it will have to be taxed by the seller before it can be driven on the public highway legally!!!!!

as soon as the logbook goes into the DVLA the SORN becomes void, which means you have to reapply the SORN declaration
