Yet again, I have failed to get to Swansea and back in one piece! When I had an electronic dizzy fitted last week, I thought my problems would be over, but no such luck!! I got from Aberdare to Britton Ferry before she started playing up. At first I thought maybe she was a bit damp from the spray off the road but she gradually got worse, misfiring until the engine would rev to 2.5 thousand and no more. If I took my foot off the throttle and let the revs decrease before increasing them again, she'd go fine for another few yards before repeating the process. I think its something to do with my coil overheating? I've read somewhere about ballast resistant coils and wiring but Im super confoozled!! The Purple One is a 1985 Mini Mayfair so does that mean she has ballast resisted wiring? Have I got the wrong coil for an electronic dizzy? Any help much appreciated folks!!

I'd say a 1985 Mini would have a ballast coil, I believe all models from 1983 do?

what dizzy did he fit? it was an aldon wernt it?
if it is an aldon then the only thing that makes it electronic is the fact they fit their ignitor kit to it, and as far as im aware they work with both the +12v and +9v(ballast) coils.

Thanks for the suggestions people! We've been puzzling over this all day...My dad is ready with his gallon of petrol and box of matches again!! Haha! Im pretty sure its a Lucas distributor but I'll have to check. We've picked the brains of some very helpful chap in J&L Minis and he said that as we have a ballast resisted wire in the loom, (white with a pink flash) we have to send a seperate feed to the coil (Or something like that...I'll ask my Dad for sure tomorrow) And the coil we've been supplied is the wrong one as it is 9v and post 1995. So we've now ordered the correct coil and are pretty sure we've sorted the wiring out. Fingers crossed!!
