finally getting around to building a trailer ;D ;D ;D

my rear half of a very rusty mini



started by chopping out the seats



the frame is currently made out of old box section from a boat trailer ( just tacked together), when I'm happy with the design etc it Will be used as a pattern to make another one out of some new steel along with some new suspension units ;D



heel board mounting point



unit location, will make some plates for it to sit on tomorrow



ride hight might be abit high but I'll wait until the trailer is on its wheels and loaded before deciding on any changes



once the frame is finished (hope fully by mid week) its on to the body work which needs alot of patches welded in before i even think of a front panel and some sort of lid.

might try using the roof to create a lid

Made a good start LJ.
Like the idea of using Indespension units instead of a subframe.
Saves a bit on weight.

yeah will hopefully make it abit lighter

the amount of weld that will go into the body will bring ithe weight back up tho

have yet to place the roof on top but it does look like it will do a tidy job ;D

managed to spend an hour on it this afternoon

first up was making some plates to bolt the frame on at the rear



then made some brackets for the suspension units to bolt on to



I'm relatively happy with the frame so I'll copy the dimensions to make a the new one.

i have made the wheel base a little bit wider to help with handling etc etc, the wheels should now fill the standard arches ;D

well i think im gonna keep hold of the mini one as its brand spanking new ;D

not sure wots gonna happen to the one in the pics yet, the Mrs wants a trailor so it might be kept for that.

strange you should ask it was only today my mother complained about it still being in the garden, there's been no real progress since the last post, it might be finished by the end of the summer as i been told to finish it or Mr scrap man will be called to collect it

Well if it turns out you cant finish it, I've always wanted a trailer to match molly!

we'll see what happens, it was origanly being built for my now Ex so i may finish the fabrication, primer it and sell it as i dont really want one. my father has show alot of intrest in it the past few days tho

the rear half of the mini is now FREE to any one who wants it, it does need some welding to make it suitable to be a tailor. i'll finish off the subframe and that will be avalible for £20 including inidespension units + length of box section & hitch.
