Mini Shows

Ive cut down the number of shows i go to this year aswell for the same reasons... especially the themed ones where the best club award generally goes to the club who have stuffed the most crap on their windscreens...
Pus i dont like taking my mini on motorways if i can help it so i tend to stay local anyway....

Shows i love:
Singleton. a no nonsense good local show, loads of variety of cars there.
Cardiff. another local one. this one wins because its something different. you dont sit in a field until your bored then drive home, you drive around until your a bit bored of driving then you have a sit down or wander around looking over everyones before the drive home.
Bristol. Club competitions, so in theory the club could win without having to stuff crap all over everyones pride and joy. also a bit more further afield so a bit more variety.
Swansea Rec. usually a good show. mind you its treated more like a meet for each club that attends, but stil its an excuse to show off the cars. but its a small local show.
Malvern. probably because it was the first Mini show i drove to once i passed my test but i really like the idea of an inside show... especially in the winter.
Castle Coombe. Plenty to look at and watch. but it does have its down sides....

dislike:
Mini in the park. when i went to it in silverstone i thought it was a bit too big for its own good... a good 10minutes from club stand to the auto jumble is a bit silly to be honest. it was good. but everything was just too spread out... mind you maybe i got a bit shell shocked by the scale of it compared to other shows ive been to.
Castle Coombe. seems to be more centered around the track than the cars. but then again, while your watching the cars fly around your too transfixed to care.
any show that makes you chuck crap all over your minis (my pet hate) make the owners dress up as much as you want, im all for that. but whats the point in spending money on your car just to throw some cardboard al over it....
Traders. A few give bargains.... most see it as an excuse to get rid of their older shodier stuff. pet hate with this one is chrome that lasts 2weeks (ie. my wing mirror). but dont get me wrong there are bargains at times generally on suspension set ups and rollcages or interior trim...however Alloys, chrome, and the knock off quickshifts arnt worth buying at shows...

I think it would be great if a few of the Mini Clubs got together and tried renting Clydach market for a day. bang smack in the middle of south wales. 10minutes drive from tidy scenery meaning a nice run is possible? *shrug*

shows that give more spaces to local clubs than the clubs that travel down for an hour or so to get there....

yeah clydach wouldnt be very easy to set up... but its always been in my mind ever since i heared about the organised cruising events down there....

my must attends are singleton, cardiff 2 aberystwyth ( mainly cos i went to uni there an i think its a great place. oh and the roads are pritty good aswell ) and gaydon mini festival.

im not to bothered about mitp, i went last year in santa pod and it was abit rubbish but im sure the weather was a big factor in that. quite enjoyed malvern but i wudnt be too upset if i missed it.

basicly the shows i want to attend arent purly down minis ,

singleton - plenty of classics
cardiff 2 aber - brilliant drive along some of the best roads in wales
gaydon - brilliant museum, i can and have spent hours walking around it

i think the main improvment would be more variety, but that is a big problem when their mini only shows

but you guys left out tredegar ( lots of goodies there last year ) ;D

not botherd about
singleton good day out + plenty of cars but bugger all traders if want any parts
mitp will give it a miss wa i've heard but hopefully get better

I've been thinking of this as well !!
If you know any body involved with the organizing of the cruise show could you get some details costs insurances etc

As phil said. someone i know runs the cruises or as their called Street Legal Events. however he is quite hush hush about prices and details im afraid.
your probably best off asking the owners straight...

a load of classic car owners should have an easier time booking the place than a load of cruisers though surley as one of the details ive heared about them getting the site for the day was to have police presence to ease traffic (or did they mean keep an eye on things )

if you want something diferent how bout organising our own show we did one mini years ago and held it at dan y or gof it wasa cracking show even had jc turn up one year in BORIS. ;D ;D ;D

Sorry If it sounds like i'm trying to put a dampner on things, I would LOVE the club to be involved in something like this but not sure we could raise the funds required

no worries mate i know where your coming from although i dont think the money would be too hard to arrange with all the members we got but the work involved in organising something like that is tremendous maybe a though for the future?. ;D

Right then, Got Idea's going around in my head again, If anyone thinks they would genuinely be able to have some input, advice or experience and are willing to put in some hard work into organizing a show in 2010 can you PM me, I have put a few feelers out and have had a few positive responses.

As coedy said earlier in the thread it would be great if we got as many mini clubs together in Clydach Market, only problem is it would have to be an evening meet because of the market traders

I'm thinking of a normal sat / sun day time show to be honest, as an evening show would limit the distance people would travel

Although the biggest problem in running a show will be public liability insurance

The cardiff in the bay run.

Been trying to think of an equivilant to the cardiff Basin for the final park-up.

I've not been down to swansea city center for some time, but there must be somewhere we could apply for...
Castle gardens - or whatever its called now, or all the road from there down towards oxford st...

we have a full year to sort it for next summer.....
any thoughts.
