Hammerite/Waxoyl underbody seal is pretty good so long as you don't mind the fact it's black and you brush any loose off and reapply some each year as necessary. For the battery box, I'd first remove the battery and give the box a good spray coating of Waxoyl. Then spray some behind the wheel arches (inside the boot). You'll have to move the fuel tank out the way to get at the left hand side. It'd also be worth coating the top of the left hand wheel arch (where the fuel tank sits), because that's a favourite rot spot. After that you can Waxoyl all the box sections (something I really should do myself).

I use the standard black hammerite underseal with a brush but don't use it inside the boot! cos it never really hardens and will always come off on things!!!!!!! ........ask Danni!!!!!!! ;D I use it everywhere underneath the car, wheelarches, sills & underneath the boot floor and try to recoat it every 2 or 3 years - remembering that mine doesn't go on the road in winters!!! - & not at all at the moment!!!!! ;D You really need to waxoyl inside the sills too to do a proper job - drill 3 or 4 holes in the inner sill and insert the 360* Waxoyl spray nozzle and pump the waxoyl in untill it runs out somewhere - preferably underneath the car!!!!! You can plug the holes up later ready for the next time! Inside the bottom of the companion box's is also a good area to treat! Anywhere you can't reach with a brush - use the spray!!! A dirty job but worth while doing regularly! jc jc

the guy who did my car also said to me to try and do the waxoyl on hot days to help it flow better.
and one word of warning, if you do inside the boot and inside the rear pockets...leave the windows and boot open for a while... it stinks...

I believe standing the can of Waxoyl in a bucket of boiling water helps. I think some add some white spirit too to get it moving (it already contains some anyway). I'm guilty of painting the inside of my boot (floor mostly) with red Hammerite paint (my cars red). Well there's already a small patch been welded there so it's not mint anyway, so hopefully it won't rust out anytime soon. It's also a good idea to spray Waxoyl inside the boot lid too. Oh and don't forget the subframes.

I remeber doing the underside of my mini... it was up on ramps and axel stands. Happily painting away. Finished... looked at my t-shirt... had loads of drips and splats on... so did my skin underneath!!

I might give Dinitrol a go. It's applied using a Shutz type gun. Not cheap, but what price a rot free Mini.

there was a write up in practical classics about that stuff a fair while ago. fairly certain. is that the stuff the navy use on their vehicles they use on their coast landing crafts? if so its the same stuff. Pricey, but how much rotted out naval stuff do you hear of?
