going back to the fred guys if its a 1100cc your engine number should start with somethinglike 10****** instead of a 998cc starting with 99***** as for the parts you need there are two type of dizzy lucas and ducellier have a look at your cap and it should be stamped on it. hope this helps

I believe the ducellier dizzy wears it's condenser on the outside?
Oh and we could have a Doctor Who marathon as I own every existing episode from 1963 onwards.
Although I'm a bit embarrassed to admit it.

Doctor fricking who, any man who admits to that on line infront of all these people should be stripped naked and made to run through the streets of his home town with a large piece of flaming toilet roll hanging from his bum.
He would also have to drink a pint of beer before we would put it out.

OK looked at engine on what i think is the coil (left side of dizzy) there are two contacts one left one right. There seems to be two wires going into the right contact and one is loose dangling in mid air. Could this be my problem? I am off this afternoon to get all the other bits i need and will be fitting them through the week.

If it's definately the coil you should have 2 wires going to the + connection, A white / yellow and a Pink / white. You should have a white / black going to the _ connection.

Plus it's one of the best British TV shows ever made and is constantly winning awards today. ;D

WD40 is the holy grail. ;D Always worked on my old rover. Any way phoned Mini spares today for bits. long story short didnt have all the info needed to buy bits. Will have tomorrow. I'll get straight to the point. When get my bits possible Thursday now, will the new points come with the gap more or less set or will i have to learn rocket science and do it myself . If not is there a house hold item i can use to set them cig paper etc. I do not have a feeler gauge. also have been given a Mountney steering wheel and boss, will this go straight on or does half the car have to come off first

WD40 is best avoided and if it's needed, then there's obviously something wrong as you found out. TBH the only time I ever set the points was on a Mini Mayfair that my niece once owned and I was successful, mainly due to the guide in the Haynes manual, but mostly due to the walk through this excellent book provided: - It's available from e-Bay or sometimes from Amazon, although they only appear to have a couple of copies showing at silly prices at the moment: - www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/1899238018/qid%3D1143392839/203-2065884-7642319Oh and no you'll definitely have to set the points gap, but you should be able to get a feeler gauge from Halfrauds? or similar? The steering wheel is only held on by a large nut and a washer, so it should be easy to change, so long as the boss is correct for your car. I believe it changed some time in the late 1970's?

OK finally bought all the parts to service the car, having gone to two shops and phoned up three in Mini Mag, there seems to be an international shortage of rotor arms. Best i could do was a three day wait so no mini until Saturday evening. Sorry all but i will have to pull out of run on the 14th. The Rotor arm shortage is reminisant of the infamous Lug nut shortage. Which programme was that???
