I can honestly say, I don't know how anyone working on bodywork/chassis restoration/refurb can get away without using one. I purchased the one below from Machine Mart for about £38 and it is well worth it. It has a stepped jaw for rebating the edge of a piece of metal which will allow it to be place behind existing panelwork and allow a plug weld even if only to hold a panel together while but welding the joint. This tool also has a reversible jaw which has a hole punch on the opposite side for puching a hole to weld through. I have a few pics below which show my explanation more clearly. A+++++ THE Tool. Punching the holes. Joggled. Punched.

True....but when you purchase your tools from places like aldi and halfords then machine mart is well flash.Hahaha. ;D
Does the job m8. All that matters, if I wanted a pro one I'd get an air one. For £38 it's fine and does what it says on the tin.
I am doing this as a hobby not for a job. I work offshore and like to spend my money on toys not tools.

yes but it is a sh#t one, but not the real McCoy from snapon ;D a air one is around £ 260 off mac tools, its like buying a Barbie than an action man ;D ;D ;D I know this place is spam central, but surely a product review page is to inform people of the usefulness of such items, not to slag off ones tools. Sorry but like I say it does the job. If I wanted snap-on I'd buy snap on, the money isn't the issue it's just for the use it will get this is suffice. I am not a pro body man I am an electrician in the middle of the north sea! This is just a hobby. I just thought someone who might like to try to get into body work and knows nothing may find this handy. Sorry, rant over.

Good to see people speaking their mind on here ;D
Cheap is good, even better when they work, and then you can have more money to spend on your mini which is more important ;D ;D ;D

As I think I said before, I don't know how anyone can get by without something as useful and cheap as this. Even if it only gets used once just to put a patch on the car then I feel at 30-40 quid then it's paid for itself, as long as you have a panel where you have room to lose the lap joint then they are superb as it is a flush finish.

This is what the restorer used to replace the bottom of my rearquarters, I was a bit dubious when he said he was going to fold one piece over the other with a wierd named tool.. but you really can not see any join at all. and in that section where the join is its actually stronger than the rest of the panel because its double thickness!

Correct Coedy, also there will be less panel warpage due to excessive heat build up as there is now double the thickness available to suck away the heat. Is warpage a world lol?

Yes, I bought one from machine mart a few months ago (VAT discount day). It does make you think what was I trying to do before?
I also tried the auto dim helmet as in Mini Magazine (see other thread).
