Could well be the fuel Luke. If the octane levels are low and seeing as it's a JC conversion which probably has a higher compression Ratio. that would cause the "pinking" which means the timing would be too far advanced. Try some fresh Motion Lotion in it first to see if that cures the problem.

This sounds so very familiar !!!!!
Had much the same problem when we couldn't get Boris started, I thought it might have been fuel then but that turned out to be timing in the end.

Timing is now set at 8 degrees BTDC, problem solved! Thanks for the tips.

Hey everyone a little update on lukes mini, hes away on tour at the moment for the whole month so while hes away im looking after the mini... good idea for him bad idea for me as he knows i like to work on minis lol! this friday ill be getting all new tyres around on it for him on the original alloys with the limited cooper centers as all the tyres have gone v bad since it was standing for so long with prev owner. and it at the moemtn has odd alloys all around lol. ive been trying to clean it up but itll need a good day or washing and polishing as its got mold marks on it and things. changed the washer bottle for a new one today as the old one had split. will need to replace the piping on it aswell as its not working fully new wipers also went on. things i can see needed ... - new bumpers as they rusted to much - new grille -new rear valance - possible respray on the roof as the gloss has gone from the paint work. - new seals all around. - a panel passenger side. interior is fine and the car is solid other then the two bits of wleding work needed i can see. its been kept all original for now but i can see it being kept that way as its pretty limited. hope your all well, havent been on here for a very long time ! Danni xxx

Hi Danni. Yep, it has been a while. Glad to hear that Luke's Mini is going to get the treatment it deserves. Sadly, when any car is unused for a while the elements take their toll. The job is well worth doing though.

what size are they? if there 12 x 6 they have probably caught the bead when fitting the tyre and hoped it would seal. if not that then it could be the rim itself is badly corroded but if its leaking on the rim it usually takes longer than a day to go down... dependant on how quick it is obviously... let me know how you get on. j

As JJ quite rightly says the problem may be what he suggests. And yes, you are perfectly within your rights to take the faulty tyre / wheel back to the fitters. They should do the job free of charge.

yes they are responsible as they did the job which isnt upto satisfaction. just ask them to take the tyre off and check for broken bead as that what it sounds like. its not uncommon. and if the tyre is ok then you are very unlucky to have a puncture the same day as a new tyre

took it back to the tyre place today apperently it was paint that was peeling from the alloy which was causing it but we shall wait n see if it stills go down ill go back again
