hi i have a p reg cooper mpi its idiling eraticly up and down a few times untill it then dies, what can this be, ive dis connected the cam sensor and no noticable change? the car drives prety good untill you come to a stop and then cuts out, it does also have a slight missfire? can it be the cam sensor? if i disconnect the crank sensor the car dies so it cant be that, i cant see a vac leak ? please help

water temp sensor can cause idlle problems, not sure if it can cause it to cut out tho.

sounds like the stepper motor, had similar probs with mine a while ago

what stepper motor? it also has a new water temp sensor, read on a site id googled, that once th batter had been removed for sometime the car should be driven for at least 24miles to teach the ecu idling points? anyone ever heared of this?

stepper motor is the cylinder on the left hand side of the inlet manifold ( if looking from front of car ) it regulates the air into the engine.

not sure about the 24 miles thing, the only thing the ecu has to "learn" it the max and min throttle positions on the tps as all other sensor ranges are hard coded.
there is a way of setting the values, its something like when the ignition is on press the pedal down a few times then start the engine ( with out your foot on pedal)

cheers for the replys guys, is the stepper motor attatched to the rite hand side of the throttle body? cheers will check lamba sensor tommorw, its also missing slightly ive replace all the plugs, also what efect does the cam sensor have or is meant to have on the engine coz i disconnected mine and there was no noticable effect cheers
