I have decided against a vtec engine, and am fancying an MG Metro engine, are these turbo? Could you put a blowoff valve on it? Are they expensive? Would insurers crucify me as it would be my first car??
Also, I was wondering whether to make it an ERA look a like, anyone know where to get an ERA bodykit?
Thanks for any help

they did two versions of the MG, turbo and non turbo, you could fit a blow off valve but theres not much need.
yep the insurers will be laughing all the way to the bank no matter which engine you have as a first car, obvioulsy a 998 or even a 850 would be the cheapest

blowoff valves on the metro engines aparently take away power... if your going to fit one youll need to modify the plenelum(sp?) chamber to accept one, and you should fit a recirculating one so itll help the engine rather than work against it, although this type is usually quieter than the ones that take away preformance...
I was going to turbo my engine (998) but after looking into it most of the insurers would just laugh me off...and that was with 2years no claims bonus... that added to the fact converting it to a turbo anyway would cost roughly 500-600 quid i decided not to do it. (even though i had bought the turbo lol)
if you just want the noise and dont mind it appearing chav then just buy those electronic dump valves. simpler. cheaper. no insurance probs. and if you get bored of your car sounding like its got the flu you can just turn it off...
but as braceuself said. if you mod the mini not long after passing your test youll probably end up paying around £1k to £2.5k for insurance unless you get realllllllly lucky. an example was my bro. all he added was bucket seats and an exhaust to his 998. it was going to cost him more than a grand to insure...

Hey thanks for the info i'll take that in mind, just checked out electric dump valves, simpler and much cheaper, i think i'll go with one of them!!

The non turbo MG engine has plenty of power on its own, as its your first car I wouldnt think the turbo would be worth the extra ££££'s in insurance As for the body kit, be carefull where you buy them from, If money is no problem then go for a zeemax kit , there are a lot of bad copy's available but you will spend a lot of time getting them to fit I think i'll go for sportspack arches, what are the best ones to get?
