Well BFY would be the standard needle, but I changed to a BPD needle after fitting a Maniflow LCB & twin-box exhaust system, plus a cone K&N filter. This software is pretty good: - www.winsu.co.uk/But a good session on a rolling road would be the best way to find the perfect needle.

I have a similar question, I installed WinSU but cant really get my head around it.
I thought I had a HIF44 but dean tells me its actually a HIF38, when I took it apart to clean I remember it had a BEJ needle fitted. First off is this the right needle? Secondly, do I need a HIF44 carb ideally for my engine?

HIF44 needles are coded B?? whats the spec of your engine? if its a standard or staged one 1275 then a hif38 if fine. but having a BEJ would suggest you have a HIF44 or some one has fitted the wrong needle

Yeah HIF38 needles are coming up as a 3 letter code beginning with A, and HIF44's being with B

A HIF38 is the equivalent of the HS4, so it's good for up to around 70-80bhp? Remember that the Mini 1275GT was always fitted with a HS4. Oh and post 1992 1275cc non Mini Cooper models were fitted with the HIF38 carb before going fuel injection some time in 1995.
The HIF44 was fitted to the MG Metro/Metro Turbo and the early Rover Mini Coopers (before they went fuel injection from October 1991), so it's good for well over 100bhp. Probably 110-120bhp?
I'd imagine the Mini ERA Turbo also got fitted with a HIF44 too?
