I'm probably very much out of my depth here, but how hard is it to fit straight cut gears to a gearbox?
I was looking online and its big money to buy an engine with the straight cut gears fitted to the box, but the gears themselves are fairly cheap to buy on their own.
I wish I hadnt got rid of that nackered 998 now because I could have played around with it a bit without the fear of breaking it.

ah the gear set, relativly straight forward to change. have to check clerances and shim things etc but pretty easy. also need a tourque wrench iirc the one nut is done up to 150lb bit of an expensive way to get a good noise that you will soon get fed up of tho

don't straight cut drop gears make pretty much the same noise but are cheaper?

A 4 synchro gearbox rebuild kit will set you back about £170. Then another £400 ish for a straight cut gear kit. And another £250 - £300 for straight cut Drops.. So for nearly a thousand notes you can make your ears bleed unless you install about 6 inches of sound deadening all around the car. You'll probably gain about 3 - 4 horsepower overall if you're lucky. Straight cuts sound beautiful i agree, but not in a road car that gets driven every day.
