As the programme said the new operator Cambrian Transport only has to run one day of public trains in the agreement with the council. And as usual with councils the answers they gave were all one sided and were phrased to show the railway in a bad light. They didn't lie but phrased their answers very carefully. As With everything there are two sides to the story. But never fear. We will be carrying on as a railway just at a new location. Will tell you more when the deal is signed

We taped this and I watched it late last night. Very sad and now there's no reason to go to Barry Island anymore.

Well with Butlins (which later became the Majestic) also gone and replaced by a housing estate, what are the council going to do next, remove the fun fair too and replace it with a Tesco's?

the last time we went to barry island it was near deserted, they had opened a kind of travelling funfair on the prom, as the actuall fair was so bad....the rides were either shut, old or very poor....its such a shame as the old barry island was great...anyone remember the radio 1 roadshows there?

It's pretty run down and has bins overflowing with rubbish in the Summer.

Well from what I understand the owner of the fun fair (I use the term loosely) only has to open one day a year to keep the 12 months license with the council. So long as he opens one day a year there's no hope that anyone else will take it over and improve it. The Railway was about the last thing that was attracting the people to the Island. I know the Island traders are not happy that we are being forced to go. When the Railway moved to Barry from Cardiff (because of the development of the Bay) the council promised us we'd be part of a 'necklace of attractions'. Didn't they achieve a lot in 10 years
