Strange to only be reving to 3.5k is it in limp mode, any lights on the dash or is it too old for that. I am assuming it is injected, correct me if I am wrong.

But surely nothing has been adjusted to cause this so you may be best leaving well alone and get a scan dome on the ecu, should only cost you £20 for a cursory check with a scanner. You may find it has developed a leak in the induction side somewhere. I don't know the set-up on these minis but most cars have airflow meters and various sensors controlling fueling so that would be the first road I would go down before altering anything. Just an opinion tho for what it's worth.

i'll have a look at everything tomorrow.not gonna alter anything cos i know nothin about injection systems

ok.stripped injection system down and cleaned it.problem still there but i cant believe how fast it now accelerates in each gear.its like a pocket rocket.anyway i booked it into willfields to get a diagnostic test done.

Hang on, you just cleaned up the injection system and it felt faster? What did you clean? Just the injectors? I would bet it's a leccy problem, as has been said, get the ecu checked over cause they can go wrong from time to time.

i actually pulled the injector housing apart and cleaned it with carb cleaner then put it back together.think it needed a clean anyway cos performance has drastically changed but the over reving is still happening so dont think its a mechanical problem.a sensor most prob.

Wouldnt mind giving that a go actually, how long'd it take you? How does the injector housing come off? How do you clean the injectors themselves, dont they have to be ultrasoincally cleaned? Most garages as you probably know will have an ecu diagnostics machine that will red flag any sensors that have gone down. Unfortunately electrical fault finding tends to be more expensive

unfortunately it hasn't.changed it as guy in willford motors said but that wasn't the prob.accidentally knocked a little black box behind injection housing and it was split.i'll change that and hopefully problem solved

idle sensor that is behind housing. common fault on few rovers.

it was the problem.a split in pipe from injector casing to the ecu.:-)as for the problem with my alarm and immobiliser arming itself it was a problem with the ignition relay.the big black box above the brake servo.any petrol rover one will fit.mine is off a 1.4 rover 45.aj auto electrician from neath did a brill job in 10 mins and it only cost £40 with the part.:-)

Tidy, Bracy. Does that mean that you Love your Mini again and you'll be keeping hold of it for a bit longer.
