On 3 April 1959, the first three pre-production Minis were assembled at Longbridge.
Although the Mini was not launched officially to the public until 26 August 1959, for many today is celebrated as the official anniversary. According to the 1959 Mini Register experts on the Specialist Mini Forums, the first pre-production cars were chassis number 101 and 102. Chassis number 101 has apparently been lost whilst number 102 is currently living in Japan as part of Mr Muruyama's amazing Mini collection.
