Hi, I have a 1995 1275 Mini fitted with HIF38 carb. Yhe previous owners fitted a stage 1 kit along with sports exhaust. In workshop manual it states that after 1992 carb mini`s were fitted with a open link cat. Question 1 Is my mini supposed to have the cat? If so it must have been removed to fit the stage 1 kit and exhuast. How does that affect MOT if the cat has been removed. Question 2 If it is supposed to be on there ,can anyone tell me where to get one? Question 3 The Carbon cannister filter thingy under wing, can these go wrong and if so where do you get replacements as i cannot find them any where? Hope someone can help Cheers peters877

afaik after 1994 if a vehicle is fitted with a cat it must be there for the mot without looking at the car we wouldn be able to say for sure if the cat has been removed or not. i believe the carboncanister is part of the fuel tank breather system no actual fuel goes through it , what seems to be the problem with it cheers mike

If it's a carburettor equipped Mini, then regardless of it's age it doesn't need to have a cat fitted. Tell the MOT tester to check at the back of his manual as I'm told there's a special addendum there on Minis. If it's a post 93? injection Mini that's been converted to a carb and had the cat removed, then it probably won't pass the emissions test without a cat. However if it's a post 93? injection Mini that's been fitted with a carburettor equipped engine from an older Mini and you can prove it via the engine number or documents etc, then the MOT tester has to test it at the age of engine and not the car and so it should/will pass the MOT emissions test. Oh and no cat will be required either.
