I`m all Carbed out !!!! Help

Hi, Can anyone help !!!! I have a 1995 Mini Mayfair fitted with 1275cc engine. I beleive it to have the Hif 44 carb, which was altered by previous owner when they fitted Stage 1 kit. Again i am led to believe that even though this has a carb, it is supposed to have the open loop cat fitted, which is no longer there as they changed the exhaust and inlet manifold.
Also the car is fitted with the carbon canister under the front n/s wing.
Now to the point, ever since i bough the car it has always had erract idling, or wont tick over at all unless you keep the choke out slightly.
I have cleaned carb, checked needle and spring and tried adjusting mixture but i still am not happy with it. The car flies when going except a splutter when accelerating fast.
Can i fit another carb ?
Would it be better putting twin carbs on?
Can you recommend a good carb set up?
Any advice welcome as i`m at me tether.

we got same carb on our 1275 + had same prob but when we had it tuned + went on the rolling road at willfield motors abercynon it seemed to cure the prob + idles fine now. know tommy filed the needle down etc so hopefully that might cure prob with the carb

Agree with Boycie, with all the modifications the only way to get it set up and running exactly how it should do is on the rolling road, I would avoid twin carbs if you can, they look lovely but can be a right pain to get set up right

It'll probably have a HIF38 carb, or at least that's what it would have come with when new.

Don't worry about the cat, as it's not required on carb Minis.

When was it last serviced though and when were the electrics last serviced/replaced too?

Oh and what oil do you put in the carb damper (if any?)?
