Should be an SPi, easy check is to see if it has a front mounted rad. If it does/did its an MPi, but I'm pretty sure that model would have been pre MPi.

Been up the garage most of the day, removed the complete loom although I may still refit the rear loom and modify it to tie into an original front loom. I also painted my spare tank ready for fitting (its a bit rough like but it'll do, hamerite smooth is real thin paint and it runs like hell) I also painted the engine and box ready for fitting. My m8 has offered the loan of his engine crane so I will collect that tomorrow and providing my mounts arrive, it may be in place tomorrow awaiting a loom. Oh yeah I also fitted a wood rimmed steering wheel. Stripped. Side Interior

Yeah, I hope so, I couldn't get over how clean the subframe came with a wipe over, it looks brand new.

Here's todays effort. What a feckin mare of a job trying to fit an engine with new mounts, I spent more than 2 hours trying to get four bolts in the new rubber mounts. I eventually undone one of the long bolts through the lower rad brakcet mounting and now I can't seem to get the long bolt back in. Never mind it's another day tomorrow. Anyone with any ideas on how I can get the bolt in. Any old tricks out there to beat the grief?

Been busy mate. Fitting new engine mounts seems to cause a lot of grief. It's not the first time a member has had difficulty with them. I'd like to think that the mounts must be slightly thicker than normal which is leading to these fitting problems. I try and source OE mounts through our favourite auction site, but that's another story. My method involves lining up one side / mount, putting the bolts in then fit the nuts and leave them loose. Then using a trolley jack and a lump of timber slowly jack up the side of the engine / gearbox where you have just fitted the loose mount. By doing this it should lower the other side sufficiently to at least line up one of the mounting holes (with the aid of a tapered drift / punch. If you rock the whole engine back and forth that also tends to help "settle" the engine lower. I tend to loosen the bolts holding the end bracket to give me a couple of millimetres extra. If you can get one mounting bolt in you should be able to get the other one in with the aid of the drift to line the other holes up and rocking the engine. TIP. Use a ring spanner to put the head of the bolt in, then tape the head of the bolt to the spanner with masking tape. It saves loads of grief and stops the bolt falling off the spanner just as you're about to "find the hole" as it were. Good luck.

I've spent a day and a half stripping and rewiring the loom on Fungus and it's still not finished. I've got the rear car loom connected and tied in to the front to the mini thirty loom, I have just about finished tying in the alarm ecu to the front loom, I also pulled a fair bit of wiring into the car off the bulkhead to tidy it up a little, I just need to fit the alternator and starter so I can connect the rest of the loom then I can test it all. A few days off first though, taking the van down to Tenby tomorrow for a long weekend. Start fresh again on Tuesday.

Spent an hour or two up the garage this afternoon and mounted the alternator and starter so I was able to connect the battery. I haven't yet soldered my connections in the car between the old and new looms just twisted them and I have the alarm ecu switching on and off with the fob so I was really pleased with that, I also have the rear washer bottle pumping to the front of the car but as yet I have no rear lights so I will get on with the soldering tomorrow.Got the starter clicking but I haven't bolted on the engine earth yet so that's another one for tomorrow. I now need an alternator bracket which bolts to the block as the one I have is for the 1275 and is the wrong length.

Ta Phil......your a star m8. I spent some time earlier today sorting and shelving some of my stuff as the garage is in a right state and I have to step over everything so I made a start and I have more to do tomorrow so I may have one yet. We'll see, but if not I'll take yours off you fella. Thanks.
Ta Boycie.

Well, finally finished tying in the loom today, soldered it up, heat shrunk it all then taped up the harness. In my opinion the only way to sort your wiring is to solder and shrink it. It just looks right. I couldn't get the horn to work and finally traced it to a bad fuse contact so cleaned it all up and got voltage to the switch but found the horn push not working so stripped out the stalks and opened it up to find the earth out so had to source another set of stalks and finally found one I had lying around but the clamp had snapped so I had to cannibalise 2 to make 1 but what a nightmare job to strip and rebuild one of them. Anyway finally left the garage about 7 tonight with all the cab and rear end electrics and horn working. Maybe tomorrow I'll get the manifolds on and feed all the loom back into the dash and finally tidy up the dash area.

That's a neat job. Far better than those horrible crimp terminals and joints. Did you manage to sort the engine mounts.?

Thanks Dai, I thought 'd leave them settle for a spell and if I still can't get it back in, then before I drop the rad in place then I'll take out the one awkward one and fit a compressed old one to just one side cos I think the ones I purchased, even though they were heavy duty, they were cheap copies and I may have been better off fitting 2 quality ones from somewhere like minispares or moss. Just had my tyres taken off the Revo's ready for me to overhaul the rims. So I think I will be getting some nitromors on the weekend, then, when they are stripped, I am getting the faces cut in my local engineering shop across the road like I did with the Elf's minilights then I can paint the spokes before polishing and laquering it all. I suppose it's a change from wiring and engines. Haha.
