Hi all, i've been a member on here nearly a year now, and never really got around to posting anything.
So looking at all the minis tonight, and reminiscing about the times i had in mine, and hoping to get mine fixed one day. I thought i'd post 'em up.
This is my first mini, Jay. He's a 1ltr Mayfair with 112k on the clock! i paid £150 for him, with a hole in the scuttle, and a rotten subframe.
I had him 'restored' by someone in Ebbw Vale, who filled him with filler, plastic bags, plaster and cardboard. Put a dodgy MOT on and gave it back to me 15 months later. Looking like this...
It was a really smart Mini, but upclose it was a bit ropey, still my pride and joy. I replaced the subframe after the apparently repaired one collapsed and then the following week the left hand wing worked it way loose and was no longer attached to the scuttle. I sent it to another restorer closer to Brecon who said he was a Triumph specialist but had repaired loads of minis in his time.
He removed the front end and attached a new one with new scuttle, new inner wings, new a panels and the panels behind the a panels..basically new everything. So it left his place looking like this..
It stayed like this for a couple of years until the painter i'd arranged to spray it found the time to paint it.
It was finally sprayed, Smoke Grey with OEW roof..i was hoping for a retro styled mini, more subtle than it was previously. When he came to refit everything to the car he found the doors won't fit. the panel behind the a panel is welding too far back, so the doors won't fit, or close properly. This was about 3 years ago, and it's not had anything done to it since, it's just in his garage getting used as a place to rest other car panels on.
Does anyone know what i can do? or possibly help me sort it?
In the mean time i was driving this beast,
a 1275 carb'd cooper, i got him from Mini in the park. This was the best mini i've ever driven..just so quick and fun to drive. and reliable. Sold it 3 years ago when i thought my mayfair would be back on the road. Still regret it! i tried to track it down last year but the new owner never replied to my emails.
This was a mini sprite my dad and I own. It was an auto but the gearbox went, so we changed to a manual but never finished it..now it's rotting in my yard at home
I also ran this for a month, a lot of you will know it.
It was my sisters cooper, the one that became Blodwyn on here!
Anyway, thanks for reading (if you managed that far!) any help with my doors would really be greatly appreciated.
