Bought an amp, sub as a package from caraudiocentre and fitted it last wednesday all working fine (sounded amazing) but then Thursday evening the amp gave up. Went into protected mode (for overheating and short circuits) Couldnt find any problems with wires , no bad earths or shorts, checked the wiring of the sub. All brilliant. after letting it cool down it still wouldnt work but came out of protection mode I rang the company who said its warm out it happens every summer so register it with returns and we will pick it up for you and check it, if its broken you will have a new one. BUT i checked online and I PAY delivery to them and if they dont find a fault I PAY £35 return fee and I PAY the delivery cost back to me . ... Im really iffy about sending it back to them now considering its going to cost at least £30 and could even be £65 if they decide its not broken or more than likely ''it was supposedly my fault'' or whatever Sorry for the essay guys its just im not up for being ripped off considering i could re-buy the amp for that price Any ideas ?

I had same problem many years ago, but once it had cooled down it used to kick back in....
could prove costly to return it and then be told its just because of the weather...

How high is the gain cranked up? Gains arnt volume knobs and should be set correctly, if they arnt they will either burn out the amp (permanently), make it cut out, or fry your speakers/sub. if its on full you could have fried the amp, and if that is the case you could find the company not replacing it anyway =/
try turning it down a bit and trying again.
also if its a sub amp the bass boost should be OFF. because if that is on at all and the gains are too high it will burn out all of the above.

Its powering a sub and the main level was wayyyy down and bass boost off. i didnt really have a chance to set the levels so i left them low. tried it with a different sub and waiting to try my sub with a different amp to rule that out.

ah fair enough, um.... doubt the sub would be at fault. they rarely die outright they usually scrape etc before they let go. worth a try though. what make is the amp?
you said you have checked your earths yeah?
the RCA isnt caught anywhere is it? because if the RCA gets jammed between two bits of metal (or going under a seat pad up over the lip of the rear seat base) you can put a kink in it meaning it will have a hard time pumping the signals down it (its not just a single core wire see).

Ring you'r local CAB they will probs tell you you are covered under the 14 day returns period where you can get a full refund providing you aren't happy with the item but because they sound like they are trying to MAKE you keep something whether you want it or not then I would let them deal with it for you as they do this sort of thing every day of the week.

Earths checked and the RCA cable is fine. Is there any chance of the amp output from the cd player dying ?? or is it on the same circuit as the speakers Its a juice amp made by inphase, not the best i know but im on a budget and its running an audiobahn dual voice coil sub which is wired in parallel so at 2 ohms but the amp is 2 ohm stable so i have no idea what blew it ... ahh well ill ring up caraudiocentre after iv made sure the amp is kaput and give them my opinion on paying the delivery up to nottingham, by courier aswell

Hi,
I think you should be covered by the 'Goods fit for purpose' (1979 sales act) which I think on these items is six months, maybe twelve).
If you were sold the amp for the purpose of putting it into a car and it does not say anywhere in the instructions that on a 'hot' day it will not work or informed this at time of sale then the amp on their own omission is not fit for purpose. If the unit has 'broken' down it is for them to sort it out and I am sure that does not incure costs to you.
Don't go to CAB go to Trading Standards (should be a local one in Yellow pages or phone directory enquires) they will give you advise and log the complaint for you to go back and follow up if needed.

Ahh I know juice. however, ive not heard of them giving up the ghost easy at all....
ive no idea, sounds like it was wired up perfectly normal.... very much doubt its the HU output... if youve got a mate with a sub/amp. get him to park next to you, and put your RCA from the headunits sub out into his amp just to check it works... but they dont go unless you do something really dull (like not earthing the amp.... lol)
check with CAB, see if they have changed their mind about the silly returns system, if not, trading standards... just mentioning trading standards should get them to change their tune tbh..
