just replace head gasket, no timeing involved just make sure it torqued down to correct torque. get the black payen gasket as they better as we found out, had to replace the copper 1 after couple of wks

Oh dear. Sounds like the head gasket has gone. The cylinder head will have to be taken off to change the head gasket.. The extra pressure in the cooling system would probably have caused the hose to split at a guess, unless the hose split before, causing the engine to overheat and then blow the head gasket .

Thanks guys, do you reckon the head will need skimming?

Depends really. The head will certainly have less chance of being warped if you dont drive it anywhere without the new gasket, so although it may be VERY obvious advice, dont go driving it to the garage to have it done lol. Or are you planning on doing it yourself?

Well once it went bang i left it stand for a while then filled it up with water and drove it about 350 yards home, don't plan on driving it anywhere else though.....

easiest way to see if it needs skimming is to put a ruler across the underside of the head + see if it straight, hopefully wont need skimming if you did'nt keep driveing it but not guaranteed

Right thats it..... i QUIT Blu has done exactly the same thing again..... I've had it blue tested today, the blue stuff went green in a matter of minutes!! So apparently that means i have gases going though the water system - where they shouldn't be! Chap in Rhos meadow (where it was blue tested) said it's either gasket again, crack in the head it's self or a crack in the block... What ever it is i needed it like a hole in the head The guy i used last time reckons it can't be any of the above, Target Minis say he is talking out of his behind!! So it looks as if i gotta shell out again.... which means blu will be off the road for a fair while cos at the mo i haven't a pot to pi$$ in or a window to throw it out of! Rant over .....

Skimmed and pressure tested

might be worth trying another head gasket as cheaper than new engine or head etc incase it was faulty gasket, it does happen but not that common. did car over heat again or just loose compression when you tried to start it ?

i dont know if it will solve the prob but there is a product in the stores called " K-SEAL " which is supposed to solve cracks in engine blocks, cylinder heads, head gaskets, rads etc + suppose to be pretty good but have never used it myself. know you can buy in most car shops as seen 1 after i bought of the net but i went with the sticking another engine in instead option so cant say how good it is. it a blue bottle with orange cap + orange sticker 236ml + part number is k5501 made by KALIMEX as supposedly used by lots of garages
