Tonight at 9.00pm on BBC2 is a TV programme about the French crazy trapeze artist who climbed across the tops of the Twin Towers (some 110 floors up on New York's former World Trade Centre) on a wire. He did it back in 1974 back when the Towers were just built and brand spanking new. It was done without permission and I believe he got into some trouble?   |

Well he did it and played a cat and mouse game with the police up there for some 45 minutes. He then got arrested but not charged and instead he put on a show in Central Park. It was all good publicity for those amazing towers though, because they took some time getting accepted by the city. It was actually a big operation involving a team of people and someone working on the inside. Unfortunately those towers got lots of unwanted attention too and then there was the 1993 bombing and of course the worst terrorist attack ever on 911. Terrible shame as apart from all those lives lost, those buildings were truly amazing. I've read that it's going to take decades before that area is finally sorted, because they just can't agree on what to build there and how to create an appropriate remembrance area for all the dead.  |
