There was an oldish film on TV earlier and there standing proud were the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre. Their seen in loads of films and TV shows though and we always shout, look there's the Twin Towers when they appear.
Me and Marie (plus Dominic who was only 2 years old at the time) were having a meal in 'The Riverside Tavern' in Bridgend, because we'd taken the old Pug 405 my late Dad owned in for a service.
To be honest we weren't really sure what was going on via the news bulletin on the big widescreen TV hanging on the wall in that pub. But everyone was just staring in shock and that was before the really bad footage got shown.
When it became clear what was going on I think I said something like 'well they tried to blow them up in 1993 and now they've come back to finish the job'.
Then whilst driving over the Bwlch mountain and heading for home it was announced on the radio how both towers had completely collapsed and thousands were feared dead.
So can anyone remember exactly where they were when they heard the news or saw the horror on TV?

got back from comprehensive, it was plastered all over the tv, sat and watched it a bit before going on my paper round. remembered just thinking 'wow' more amazed than anything else... didn't feel as if it really effected me seeing as it was 'all the way over the other side of the word'
watched the documentary '102 minutes that changed America' on youtube last night and left me feeling very deflated and emotionally exhausted. there's loads of video footage I had never seen before (and some I don't want to see again) but was a very sobering video... and really hits home the magnitude of the event and just how many people died.
The shots of everyone in time square standing perfectly still, silently watching the giant tv, all cars on stop, in one of the busiest cities in the world. will haunt me for quite a bit I think...
However...
Orio Palmer is one of the most fantastic individuals that ever lived and hope one day I can be 1/4 of the person he was..
(he managed to by-pass the lifts emergency cut off, rid the lift up to the 40th floor, carry his gear up another 38 floors and get to the bottom level of the point of impact, all the time helping people he was passing in the stairwells out of harms way. there's an audio clip that was recorded just moments before collapse where he is issuing orders to send up some more gear so that he can continue fighting the blaze by himself.)

If any good came out of the 1993 bombing it was that it made the authorities install fail safe lighting and smoke extractor fans in all the stair wells. Thanks to that, those who were able to get out on 9/11, got out in record timing.
But I was aware of those amazing buildings as a kid, because I remember seeing them appear (instead of the Empire State Building) in the 1976 remake of King Kong which I watched with my cousin in the old Caesar's Palace cinema at Trecco Bay Porthcawl, whilst on holiday in my families old static caravan.
It may have happened on the other side of the world, but there were people from all over the world who died in those Towers.
I've also had the odd nightmare about it since and some have been pretty vivid too like being trapped above the inferno whilst surrounding by hundreds of crying children and there's nothing I could do to save them.
Sometimes real life events are far worst than what's seen in the cinema.

i was out hunting and got told by the farmer (had radio on in his tractor) i got home and turned the tv literally seconds before the second tower got hit.
spent the whole night in front of the tv not believing what we where watching. the images of the people jumping still gets to me no matter how many times their shown.
got to admit i do like the conspiracy theory's even tho there is no evidence etc

Yes rest in peace to all those who were lost and lets hope nothing like this is ever allowed to happens again.
I also forgot to mention that we have a lovely moonlight picture of Manhattan hanging on the wall in our passage and the twin towers are there in the centre.
I've also watched those conspiracy theory programmes and to be honest I think their really inappropriately made and are just a bit disrespectful to all those who died that day and the family and loved ones who got left behind.

I was walking home from School with my mate and his Mum was on the door step telling us to come in to watch the news. I was only 12 so didn't really quite grasp the enormity of the situation.
