I was wondering besides the dreaded rust what other faults are Mini's known for, my old man reckons you couldn't drive them through water w/o causing problems, he took great pleasure in cracking "Mini jokes" while my mother egged him on... But I just thought it be interesting too see what sort of problems there are... Thanks

The biggest problem is people underestimating the Mini?
I mean it did win 4 Monte Carlo Rallies outright for starters. So a bit of water isn't going to worry it, as long as the electrics are clean, well serviced and kept dry by a weather shield.
Mine will be 19 years old in November and I've owned it for almost 16 years. It's gone past 99,610 miles on the clock and rust has been the only real problem with it.
Apart from that it'd be perfect.

It depends on the car and how the person before you has treated it too. I'm not sure about anyone else but my exhaust kept falling off in the early days, and I'm on my third gearbox now lol but I did by cheap second hand ones . rust is starting to become a problem. oh and top engine steady for me has been a pain. but other than that it's been okay I've covered over 30K in the last 18months and it's not really let me down *touches wood*

merlin the red hot has done 30k the last 3 years, hes never let me down! mostly with the tyres screeching off him, look after a mini properly and it will look after you,, yeah they need attention but thats the joys of owning a classic! your right about the rust tho

ive just done my first 500 miles in melvin since full rebuild and hes not let me dwon touch wood. as long as you check things more often than you would with a modern car as things creep up on you in a classic ewithout you knowing until boosh your in the s**t. if you understand an engine and you happen to be s**t-hot at welding then you cant go wrong with a mini

Plus Minis are highly addictive and you may find you have to own one forever. Like me.
